Error of Governor Jang’s 10 commandments shrine. In 2017, a former governor of Plateau State, Jonah David Jang, erected a Ten Commandment Monument in Jos South and Commissioned it on 10th December, 2021 with a former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, gracing the occasion.
The monument has a prayer alter with an open-air amphitheater with the capacity of 5,800 people where people can go and worship. In order words it’s a ten commandment Shrine.
According to Clinton Garuba, Jang’s media spokesman, the erection of the monument (shrine) was in obedience to God’s instruction to Jang. But can God give such an instruction?
God has warned us in his word not to believe every spirit, but to test them Apostle John said, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” 1John 4:1.
It’s very unfortunate today in Plateau State that Christianity has been politicized, and many are trooping in that direction without minding the salvation of their souls.
Salvation is in Christ and not the Ten Commandments; hence Christians should be preaching Christ and not the Ten Commandments.
Before the coming of Christ in the flesh, the Ten Commandments were there. So, if there was salvation in the Ten Commandments, Christ wouldn’t have come. Apostle Paul said, “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain” Galatians 2:21.
“You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace,” Galatians 5:4.
The 10 commandments is law and not grace, and if you seek to be justified by it, you have fallen from Christ. It is believe in Christ that brings salvation as the Scripture says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16.
The essence of believing in Christ as the only means of salvation is on this wise: when God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden, he instructed them not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, saying they will die if they eat.
Adam and his wife ate and they were bound to die.
What God did not tell them was the kind of death and the time they will die.
The death is in three folds; separation from the evening fellowship God always had with Adam, physical death, and spending eternity in the lake of fire. The Scripture calls eternity in the lake of fire Second Death. Revelation 20:14- 15 states, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” Revelation 20: 14- 15
God’s initial purpose for man was to live forever in bliss and have fellowship with him. But Adam’s disobedience has crippled the plan.
God loves man and didn’t want to lose him to sin and Satan. He has to save man from spending eternity in the lake of fire where he prepared for Satan and his fallen angels. But he cannot change his punishment’s pronouncement.
It has to take place because the God said, “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” Isaiah 55: 10 -11.
Since God’s not cannot be retracted, the only remedy to the punishment is for someone to take the punishment in place of man to avert the consequences.
God killed an animal and made cloth for Adam and Eve. The blood of the animal killed died in their place.
Since then, God gave an option of killing and sacrificing animals for the atonement of the sin committed under the dispensation of death and the law. Death reign from Adam to Moses, while the law from Moses to Christ; and Grace from Christ to now Romans 5:14 – 19.
Cain, Adam’s first son sacrificed fruits of his farm, but was rejected by God, because there was no life in fruits. Abel sacrificed a lamb and was accepted, why, because the lamb had life, and the life replaced the death.
God allowed animals to be sacrificed because the sin of Adam was not passed unto them. But the blood of these animals sacrificed under the dispensation of death and the law did not clean the conscience of man but the flesh, because the animals had no conscience.
Apostle Paul said, “For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:13-14.
Paul also said, “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins” Hebrews 10:4.
For God to have fellowship with man as before and secure eternity for man in paradise, there must be total forgiveness of sin by the death of a human being without sin. But who, since all men have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God?
Again, it requires someone who can defeat Satan, but who? What about angels? Satan was able to deceive some angels and they joined him in rebelling against God.
The only person greater than Satan is God, but God is spirit, he has no flesh and blood, and whoever sees him will die. He cannot come in his majesty because that would make the end of the world. Hence, he has to become like man to achieve the work of salvation.
If he must become a man, he must come through a virgin, virtuous and god-fearing woman. Also from a humble background.
Some people limit God and say, who was in heaven when he came into Mary’s womb? God has the power to be in heaven and on earth at the same time.
How can one explain this? God breathed only once into Adam when he moulded him, but that breathe alone produced billions of people with different sexes, sizes, mindset, colour and what have you.
If God’s breath alone can produce billions of people, can’t he be in heaven, in Mary’s womb and the entire globe at the same time.
Some people don’t believe that we are God’s children by nature, and they do not also believe we are his children by faith and heirs of his kingdom.
We call our offspring children because they came from our genes through our body. All humans came directly from God through his breathe which he breathed into Adam. Our souls are God’s breathe. We did not fall from trees or the sky or through evolution, but from God.
Since we came from him, we are his children. Our body, is not us, but our soul. The body will die, but not the soul. It is the soul that makes us the children of God. It was the breathe of God which he breathed into Adam that makes the scripture qualified him as the son of God Luke 3:38.
Christ came through Mary, making him 100% God and 100% man. Apostle Paul said, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory” 1Timothy 3:16.
Apostle John said, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men…And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1-4 & 14.
Christ came and did exactly as God wanted man to have done, and was killed because of righteousness and rose the third day.
Now, if you believe in Christ and confessed, you have rejected Adam’s sin the led to man’s death and accepted Christ’s righteousness that led to his death, and God will impute his righteousness on you.
Then, the relationship that man lost with God in the Garden of Eden will be restored through the Holy Spirit who will dwell in us. Christ said, “… If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him” John 14:23.
You can see why emphasis on salvation must be directed on Christ and not the law. Forgiveness of sin is the most important, because through it one receives the Holy Spirit which in turn will grant you the grace to obey God.
We are in the dispensation of grace, and the emphasis is on Christ and his blood and not the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are good, but they have no salvation.
The disciples went about preaching Christ and not the Ten Commandments, who in turn gave them the grace to obey his world.
When you accept Christ and walk in him, God will write his commandments in your heart and not on monuments. Apostle Paul said, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more” Hebrews 10:16-17.
The message should be on Christ and not the law.
Ten Commandments are not Christianity. The Jews have the Ten Commandments but they don’t believe in Christ. They put the Ten Commandments on their door posts. Judaism is not Christianity.
Jang’s Ten Commandments shrine is an attempt to take people back to the law and inculcate the consciousness of using the flesh and forgetting the role of the spirit. The finger direction should be on Christ and not the Ten Commandments. The monuments are not in any wise pointing at Christ.
