Supreme Court debunks rumor of Judges withdrawal from the panel. In a bid to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023 election, candidates from various parties, including Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), have presented separate petitions at the Supreme Court.
As the court gears up to hear these appeals on Monday, October 23, 2023, conflicting reports surfaced regarding the withdrawal of some judges from the panel.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has debunked reports claiming that some of its judges withdrew themselves from the panel set to hear the appeals against President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023 election.
Dr. Festus Akande, the Supreme Court’s Director of Press and Information, swiftly addressed these claims. He categorically stated that there was no truth to the reports. According to Akande, all members of the panel remained intact and fully prepared to hear the appeals on the scheduled date.
All members of the panel are intact and ready to hear the petition on Monday, October 23, 2023. However, there is a heavy presence of armed security operatives at the Supreme Court and its surrounding areas, and entry into the courtroom would be restricted.
